Why do I need to know about WHMIS?

It is important that you understand how to safely use all of the chemicals you may come across in your workplace. If you don't know how to properly handle chemicals at work, it could lead to an accident, or prevent you from correctly responding to an incident.

• You have a Right to Know:  Under Occupational Health & Safety legislation you have the right to know about actual and potential dangers in the workplace.
  
  

• Your Employer has a legal obligation: If there are hazardous chemicals in the workplace then your employer must provide you with WHMIS training and any equipment you need to protect yourself.
